Aesthetic education and genetic epistemology: waldorf education teaching praxis from a piagetian perspective

This article reflects on "Teaching Praxis" in the early years of elementary education from the perspective of Jean Piaget's Genetic Epistemology, in interface with Waldorf Education. The objective is to analyze how teaching practices grounded in Aesthetic Education—rhythms, narratives, and artistic activities—within a first-grade Waldorf classroom facilitate the transition from intuitive to concrete-operational thought and the development of autonomy according to Piagetian theory. Through a qualitative case study of a first-grade class in a Waldorf school in Brazil, the research illustrates how the intentional orchestration of Aesthetic Education in daily life promotes not only the transition from intuitive thinking to logical-mathematical constructions but also the procedural development of moral and intellectual autonomy. The results demonstrate that the orchestration of daily rhythm and the construction of habits educate the will and structure the "form" of schooling, which is fundamental for the transition from heteronomy to Piagetian autonomy. The study details empirical practices, such as "Form Drawing" (the story of King Straight) and the introduction of the four operations through fantasy (the mathematical Gnomes), evidencing that teacher-directed boundaries do not stifle creativity; rather, they provide the affective and assimilative anchoring necessary for abstraction. It is concluded that Waldorf teaching praxis embodies the Piagetian demand for active methods, integrating feeling and doing as indispensable drivers for thinking.
