FAMILY AND EDUCATION FROM ROUSSEAU'S PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
This paper aims to explore Rousseau's ideas on family and education, analyzing how these concepts are interconnected and how they contributed to the transformation of society during the Enlightenment and beyond. A qualitative and descriptive bibliographical research was conducted, in which four works by Rousseau were analyzed. Rousseau believed that education shapes human nature, promotes ethical values, and prepares citizens to live in an ideal society. He criticized traditional models and advocated for personalized and respectful education, adapted to each child, with an emphasis on the use of play as an educational tool. However, these ideas face current challenges, such as the difficulty of large-scale personalization due to the limitations of educational systems. The evolution of family structures and gender roles significantly impacts contemporary understanding of education. Pedagogical thought continues to dialogue with Rousseau, incorporating new approaches to face the challenges of the 21st century, despite criticism of his idealism and restrictive view of women.
Keywords:Enlightenment; Human nature; Family diversity; Pedagogy.
