Editorial Ethics Policy

“Perspectivas em Diálogo: Revista de Educação e Sociedade” guides its practices according to the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing and the guidelines, recommendations and flowcharts of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The journal is committed to ensuring integrity, transparency, impartiality and scientific rigour at every stage of the editorial process.

This policy applies to all persons involved in the production, evaluation and publication of manuscripts, including authors, editors, reviewers, ad hoc consultants and other journal collaborators.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF RESEARCH INTEGRITY

The journal does not tolerate practices that compromise the reliability of scientific production, including plagiarism, self-plagiarism, fabrication, falsification or manipulation of data, citation manipulation, duplicate submission, redundant publication, improper authorship, failure to disclose conflicts of interest and the undeclared or inappropriate use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools.

Any suspicion of misconduct will be examined responsibly, confidentially and impartially. When necessary, the journal may request clarification, documents, data or additional information from the persons involved. Confirmed cases will be handled in accordance with COPE guidance and may result in rejection of the manuscript, requests for corrections, publication of an erratum, retraction, expression of concern or other appropriate editorial measures.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS

Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript is original, unpublished and prepared in accordance with the principles of research integrity. They must also ensure the accuracy of the information presented, the proper acknowledgement of the sources used and the authenticity of the data, results, analyses, citations and references.

Authorship must be attributed only to persons who have made a significant contribution to the conception, development, execution, analysis or interpretation of the research, as well as to the drafting or intellectual revision of the manuscript. All persons listed as authors must be aware of and approve the submitted version.

Requests to add, remove or change the order of authorship after submission will be assessed by the editorial team and must be accompanied by a justification and the formal agreement of all persons involved.

Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, academic, professional or personal conflicts of interest that may influence the research, the interpretation of the results or the publication process.

At the time of submission, the following files must be provided:

I. manuscript prepared in accordance with the journal template and without any elements that may identify the authorship;

II. similarity verification report produced by CopySpider or another equivalent programme;

III. mandatory declaration on the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence.

ORIGINALITY, PLAGIARISM AND SELF-PLAGIARISM

Before submission, the final manuscript, already formatted in accordance with the journal template, must be checked using CopySpider or another equivalent programme. The complete report, in PDF format, must be submitted together with the other mandatory documents.

A free version of CopySpider may be downloaded from: https://copyspider.com.br/main/pt-br/download.

Submission of the report does not replace editorial assessment and does not automatically determine acceptance or rejection of the manuscript. The editorial team will assess the context of the similarities identified, considering properly indicated quotations, references, technical expressions, regulatory documents and other particular features of the text.

Authors are responsible for properly identifying all content originating from previous works, including works of their own authorship. The reproduction of substantial parts of previous publications without proper acknowledgement may be characterised as self-plagiarism or redundant publication.

GUIDELINES FOR THE USE OF GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

From November 2025 onwards, the journal adopts specific guidelines to ensure the ethical, transparent and responsible use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools in the preparation of manuscripts.

Artificial Intelligence tools may not be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for published content, disclose conflicts of interest, respond to matters relating to research integrity or approve the final version of the work.

Permitted use under human supervision

Generative Artificial Intelligence tools may be used as support to:

a) improve the cohesion, coherence and linguistic accuracy of the text;

b) provide stylistic, vocabulary or textual restructuring suggestions;

c) assist in the translation process or in the preparation of an initial textual version, particularly when the text was not originally written in the language of publication;

d) generate preliminary proposals for the structure or organisation of the manuscript, provided that they are fully reviewed and validated by the authors;

e) produce figures or images, provided that the use of the tool is disclosed and that the requirements of transparency, attribution, copyright and content integrity are observed.

Prohibited use

Generative Artificial Intelligence tools may not be used to:

a) automatically produce central and substantial content of the manuscript, such as the theoretical framework, scientific argumentation, description or analysis of data, discussion of results, conclusions or references;

b) generate, fabricate, alter or present data, results, figures, images or information that have not been properly verified;

c) create non-existent citations or references, or present information generated by the tool as though it had been directly verified in the original sources;

d) replace the critical analysis, scientific interpretation or intellectual responsibility of the authors;

e) list an Artificial Intelligence tool as an author or co-author of the manuscript.

Responsibility for the use of artificial intelligence

Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy and integrity of all manuscript content, including parts prepared, revised, translated or modified with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence tools.

All citations, references, factual statements, interpretations and information produced with the support of these tools must be directly verified by the authors. Authors are also responsible for identifying and correcting possible errors, biases, omissions, distortions or inconsistencies.

Mandatory declaration on the use of artificial intelligence

At the time of submission, authors must complete and sign the mandatory declaration on the use of Artificial Intelligence, providing:

a) the name and, when available, the version of each tool used;

b) the sections or parts of the manuscript in which the tool was used;

c) the objectives and purposes of its use;

d) the manner in which the content produced or modified by the tool was reviewed and validated by the authors.

When no Generative Artificial Intelligence tool has been used, this information must also be stated in the declaration. The declaration template is available in the journal system.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EDITORIAL TEAM

The persons responsible for the editorial process must conduct it fairly, impartially and confidentially, basing their decisions exclusively on the scientific quality, relevance, originality and suitability of the manuscript for the journal’s scope.

The editorial team must identify and manage possible conflicts of interest and may transfer responsibility for the manuscript to another member of the editorial team whenever a circumstance may compromise, or appear to compromise, the impartiality of the decision.

The editorial team is also responsible for verifying compliance with the submission requirements, the presence of the mandatory documents, suitability for the journal’s scope, the overall quality of the work and the existence of possible issues relating to research integrity.

Information obtained during the editorial process must remain confidential and may not be used for personal benefit or shared with persons who are not directly involved in the evaluation and processing of the manuscript.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF REVIEWERS

Reviewers and ad hoc consultants must provide well-founded, respectful, objective and constructive reports within the established deadline.

They must inform the editorial team of any conflict of interest that may compromise their impartiality and decline the review when they do not possess sufficient knowledge of the subject or are unable to complete the work within the requested deadline.

They must also report possible instances of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data manipulation, non-existent references, inappropriate or undeclared use of Artificial Intelligence and any other situations that may compromise the integrity of the manuscript.

Manuscripts received for review are confidential documents. Reviewers must not share the texts, use external Artificial Intelligence tools to process their content, disclose information to third parties or use data, arguments or ideas obtained during the review for personal benefit.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

All persons involved in the editorial process must disclose financial, institutional, academic, professional or personal conflicts of interest that may influence, or be perceived as capable of influencing, their decisions, evaluations or interpretations.

The existence of a conflict of interest does not necessarily imply misconduct, but failure to disclose it may compromise the transparency and reliability of the editorial process.

INITIAL ASSESSMENT AND PEER REVIEW

During the initial assessment, the editorial team will verify the manuscript’s suitability for the journal’s editorial line and scope, compliance with the publication requirements, correct use of the template, submission of the CopySpider or equivalent report, submission of the mandatory declaration on the use of Artificial Intelligence, scientific contribution, quality of the text and publication potential.

Only submissions that include the three mandatory files and comply with the established editorial requirements will be forwarded for peer review.

Manuscripts approved during the initial assessment will be sent to two reviewers with qualifications and expertise related to the subject of the work, through a double-anonymised peer review process. The identities of the authors and reviewers will be protected throughout the process.

In the event of disagreement between the reports, the manuscript may be sent to a third reviewer. Editorial decisions may be: a) Accept; b) Revisions required; c) Resubmit for review; d) Submit to another journal; e) Decline; f) See comments.

Accepted works will be forwarded to the editing stage, during which the adjustments required for publication will be made.

CORRECTIONS, RETRACTIONS AND EDITORIAL NOTICES

When significant errors, omissions, plagiarism, fabrication or manipulation of data, improper authorship, inappropriate use of Artificial Intelligence or any other situation that compromises research integrity are identified, the journal will examine the case in accordance with COPE guidance.

Depending on the nature and seriousness of the occurrence, the journal may publish an erratum, correction, retraction or expression of concern. These notices will be linked to the original article and will remain publicly available in order to preserve transparency and the record of the editorial process.

The commitment to publication ethics is shared by all persons involved in the publication process. By adopting this policy, “Perspectivas em Diálogo: Revista de Educação e Sociedade” seeks to ensure the reliability, transparency, responsibility and scientific rigour of the works it publishes.
