Call for submissions for the thematic dossier: “PIAGETIAN THEORY: CONTEMPORARY PERSPECTIVES AND APPLICATIONS IN RESEARCH

2026-03-25

Piagetian theory, developed by Jean Piaget (1896–1980), examines the processes of knowledge construction and cognitive development throughout the lifespan. Grounded in a constructivist perspective, the theory posits that individuals actively construct their knowledge through interaction with their physical and social environments. The scope of its studies and research encompasses the understanding of physical, biological, and social concepts.

Given the relevance of this theory today, this dossier will bring together theoretical and empirical studies that use Piagetian theory as a framework for understanding processes of cognitive development, learning, concept formation, and pedagogical practices across a wide range of fields of knowledge. We welcome submissions that engage with Piaget’s contributions to Education and other fields of the Humanities; present methodological applications, such as the Piagetian clinical-critical method; analyze the implications of Piagetian theory in contemporary contexts; and establish connections with other theories or approaches.

We invite all researchers whose work is informed by Piagetian theory to join us by submitting article proposals for the creation of a special issue designed to serve as a platform for highlighting the theory’s potential across various domains of knowledge construction.

Organizers of the thematic dossier: Dr. Amanda de Mattos Pereira Mano (UFMS – Brazil), Dr. Francismara Neves de Oliveira (UEL – Brazil), Dr. Roberta Chiesa Bartelmebs (UFPR – Brazil), and Dr. Zuraya Monroy-Nasr (UNAM – Mexico)
